Top 3 Ways Using Horse Classifieds Can Save You Money
03/23/2009 There are ways in which we can accommodate our passion for tougher times. One of the best ways? Horse classifieds.
In difficult economic times, we have to give up a lot of things we love. But for many of us, horses are more than a love: they’re a passion. And giving up a passion is in many ways like giving up our life, and our enjoyment of it. Luckily for us, there are ways in which we can accommodate our passion for tougher times. One of the best ways? Horse classifieds.
What are horse classifieds?
Just like Craigslist or the “Classified” section of your daily paper, horse classifieds are just what they sound like: a classified section for horses. Horse classifieds are where people interested in buying and selling horses can look for availability. But the horse classifieds can be used for so much more! Horse classifieds can offer goods, services, activities, and news on all things equine. Here is a list of ways you can use the horse classifieds to save money:
1. Compare lessons and training services with horse classifieds
When most of us are interested in improving our horse-riding skills, a horse classified section is the last place we look. Usually, we look in the yellow pages, or we ask around for a good trainer or teacher. While those two methods are fine, they are also more expensive than the horse-classifieds route. Unlike horse classifieds, which are usually found online, yellow pages only gets updated once a year. That means the newest trainers looking to break into the business (and offering the lowest rates) won’t be listed. On a horse classified list, however, they can advertise as soon as they’re ready to start. Horse classifieds also have an advantage over the standard “ask around” strategy because the people that post in horse classifieds are looking for work. As such, they will be more willing to negotiate prices for horse lessons and training.
2. Using horse classifieds to buy discount supplies
Saddles, stirrups, tacks, feed, boots—it all adds up, especially if you buy full price. With horse classifieds, you can look through sections on “saddles,” “vehicles,” or “equipment” to see who has new or gently used items for sale. And unlike a typical horse-supply store, with horse classifieds you don’t have to wait for a bi-yearly sale: you can get a discounted blanket now, when you need it.
Another advantage horse classifieds have over in-store buying is that no price on a horse classified ad is nailed down. Usually, the price listed in the horse classifieds is negotiable, and you can get anywhere between 10-30% off the price listed. And if you can’t find a particular piece of equipment or clothing in the horse classifieds, you can post to the horse classifieds “Wanted” section, and interested sellers can find you.
3. Sell your stuff with horse classifieds
Usually, every horse lover has accumulated equipment and clothing that he or she no longer needs. The horse classifieds is a great way to sell the saddle you’ve outgrown, some extra horse shoes, or the tack you don’t have time to repair. A diverse group of people read horse classifieds, and chances are someone will want to repair, refurbish, reuse, or resell something collecting dust on your barn. And since most horse classifieds are free (or require a small commission upon the sale of your item), there isn’t much to lose, but a whole lot to gain.
